In 1960 The foundation of the YSU History Museum was laid by the decision YSU Rector. Initially, it functioned as a cabinet and was located in the first building of the university. In 1965 the cabinet was moved to the 5th, later to the 7th floor of the central building of the newly constructed university complex. In 2009 the renovated museum was adapted to the logic of exhibitions and a new exhibition with several sections was opened. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of YSU, the museum was named after Professor Ludwig Gharibjanyan for his invaluable contribution to the foundation and further development of the museum. The exhibition on the history of Yerevan State University is particularly important in the museum, which tells about YSU's structure, faculties, rectors, founding professors and benefactors, active student life, as well as international cooperative relations of the university. The total number of collections is 17,287, of which 800 are fund exhibits, 15,065 archive documents, 260 archaeological exhibits, 3,000 photographs.

The museum exhibits such unique samples as the 1919 Transcripts and minutes of the meetings of the organizing committee of Yerevan University, 1919. created the first charter of Yerevan University, many old documents, handwritten copies of Leo's "Ani" work, Hovhannes Navakatikyan's "Analytic Geometry" textbook, Harutyun Anzhur's two lectures, also G. Many manuscripts of Asatur. Yuri Ghambaryan, the first rector of YSU in 1885-1886. Handwritten copy of lectures given at Moscow University.

The archeology department of the museum has important exhibits, which was formed on the basis of many finds discovered by archaeologists of the Faculty of History of YSU, from the Stone Age to the Middle Ages.

These exhibits have didactic value not only in terms of enriching the professional knowledge of university students, but are also important for the research studies of domestic and foreign specialists.
